A DREAMY VINEYARD WEDDING WITH SPLASHES OF PINK HUES, A DOWNPOUR OF RAIN, AND A STUNNING SUNSET TO TOP IT ALL OFF

When Robyn and Nick first got in touch with me about their dreamy winery wedding in Iowa, I was so excited – they were planning the most romantic and relaxed wedding with twinkling lights overlooking the vineyard, and even a candy bar as a yummy touch. But lets be real - I was super excited to be back with their family/friends. These people know how to party, dance, and just have a really good time. We wont forget Robyn’s sister’s wedding we photographed a couple years ago! Now we just have to convince their brother’s to remember us when the time comes too ;) - I’ll bring the fireball, OKAY?!

Getting ready

We started shooting inside the barn at Summerset Winery, where the bride and her friends were getting ready together, and it was so relaxed, because everyone was in a good mood. Robyn was super chill and just ready to go with the flow. Robyn wore a gown by designer Allure Bridals that she purchased from Pure Bridal. Nick wore a grey suit with a light blush pink tie from Skeffington's Formal Wear and they looked so perfect. I'm over here obsessing over that stunning gown and I hope they wear these outfits every year for their anniversary! HOW COULD YOU NOT?! Photos guys. Photos. We MUST do photos in these again and again and again.

Getting hitched

The wedding took place outside of the winery barn, and was a romantic setting overlooking the vineyard. They had Robyn's old high school teacher officiate their wedding, which she did such a wonderful job as there were tears of joy all around. She told a little bit about Robyn and Nick's story that brought them together and I loved hearing it. Their story is one for the books. After the ceremony they had a sweeping first kiss, and then we went and did some beautiful portraits. That is until we had a torrential rain! Only minutes after getting out our drone and snapping a few photos a couple rain drops hit our skin. In a matter of a few minutes we all made a dash for the barn and barely missed getting caught in the mess of it. Shout out to my right hand man, my lovely husband, whom stayed behind to get the drone back safely. He may have been soaked… LOVE YA, BABE! Our portraits were put on hold but that didn't ruin it for us. We snuck back out during the reception to capture the real magic. If you were outside on this very eve of June 15th - you know what I’m talking about. THAT SUNSET WAS MAGIC.

The party

The wedding reception took place inside the winery barn, which was full of splashes of pink and rose gold decorations. It was gorgeous. Robyn + Nick and their family did a really great job decorating everything. I’m a sucker for rose gold anything!

While everyone was sippin’ on those drinks and having a good time, I was keeping a watchful eye on events outside. I couldn’t pass up these amazing colors. If you recall their engagement photos- you know they love those twinkling lights. So, I convinced them to play in the puddles under the lights. These two did not hesitate which made me love them even more. They danced, splashed, and kissed in the rain. The sunset through the gloomy clouds brought it all together and all that rain was worth it! Most couples ( which don't get my wrong, I totally get it) are extremely picky about getting their outfits dirty. When I can actually get a couple to be down for not worrying about it - that's when the real fun happens. You wear these outfits once. Make memories in them!

During the reception they had the most mouth-watering candy bar there ever was, which everyone loved. I couldn't help but cruise by the table and snag some of those peach rings. For dinner they served a hog roast, and it was loved by all the guests as well. After dinner they had some wonderful speeches, then the couple cut the wedding cake and they went straight into the first dance. Like I said earlier, this crew knows how to dance! They can line dance like no other. One of the highlights to the evening was when the bride threw her bouquet for the bouquet toss and one of the bridesmaids - I kid you not- straight up dove and slid onto the floor, swiping the bouquet before some kiddos got it. We all had a really good laugh about it. YOU GO GIRL.

The couple

Robyn and Nick met 16 years ago. They dated for about a week and if I remember correctly- she was the one to call it off. Fast forward to a couple years ago, after other relationships and kids - they were once again brought together. Now a beautiful family of five. They say if you’re planning a wedding, "Live this day in the moment. It goes by so fast that it really does all feel like a dream! It may not be perfect., but it will be perfect to you!".
